            Registration of members was done from 9 to 11 AM. Inaugural Session started at 11 AM in RAC Auditorium with Dr. N. N. Singh (VC, BAU), Dr. P. N. Jha (Ex-VC, RAU), Dr. S. N. Pandey (Ex-VC, BAU), Dr. A. K. Sarkar (President, ARAC), Dr. Ramesh Kumar (Secretary, ARAC) and Dr. Violet Kerketta (Treasurer, ARAC). Mrs. Nilima Kerketta, IAS (Ex-RAC 1985) Tribal Development Commissioner, Ranchi was the guest of honour.

 

            President ARAC, Dr. A. K. Sarkar Welcomed the members for their affectionate association with RAC. He informed the house that ARAC was now a registered society (No. 617 of 2009-10) largely due to the dedicated efforts of Sri P. N. Verma, Sri Naresh Prasad Singh, Sri Birendra Prasad, Sri Ramesh Kumar & Mrs. Shashi Kiran Tirkey. He outlined that there were three challenges for ARAC.

 

(i)                  To reach out to our members.

(ii)                Increase the number of registered members.

(iii)               Improve & consolidate ARAC activities.

 

              President ARAC, Dr. Sarkar honoured Alumni from 1958 to 1962 batch with Shawl who were present. They were Sri M. K. Majumdar (1958), Sri Pandey Janaki Raman Sinha (1961), Sri T. Deogan (1962), Sri B. D. Bhagat (1962), Sri Ram Naresh Tiwary (1962), Sri R. P. Keshri (1962), Mrs. Nilima Kerketta (1985) & Dr. S. N. Pandey, Dr. P. N. Jha & Dr. N. N. Singh, VC, BAU. He reminded the member that ARAC meet is being regularly organized since 2003 i.e. 28.12.2003, 28.12.2004, 5.11.2006, 20.12.2008, 30 & 31st Jan. 2010.

 

            After this a DVD prepared by 1961 batch alumni Professor M. A. Mohsin,  former Vice-Chancellor, BAU on ‘RAC Down the Memory Lane’ was shown to the members present in the college auditorium, which was appreciated, by all the members present. She showed her keen interest in the development of RAC as a premier institution. Then Dr. A. K. Sarkar presented an overview of the developments in RAC after the establishment of BAU in 1981, Mrs. Nilima Kerketta addressed the gathering and thanked the organizers wholeheartedly for this event.

 

            Chief guest on the occasion Dr. N. N. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, BAU inaugurated the meet and congratulated the organizers. He stressed the need for (i) enhancing the membership (ii) improving financial status to be able to serve the Alumni who are in distress. (iii) Undetaking various activities and (iv) helping the new B. Sc. (Ag.) students in employment & guidance for future.

 

            Vote of Thanks was proposed by Sri Birendra Prasad.

 

            After tea, the house assembled, for ‘Necrology Session’ organized by Prof. Shailendra Kumar. Members paid homage to the departed souls.

 

Technical Session was organized under the Chairmanship on Sri J. P.Singh and Dr. K. K. Sahay on

 

·        Current status and future thrusts in Agriculture and allied sectors.

·        Need for change in attitude & skill and developing communication skills for better professional development.

·        Visit to Entrepreneurship development units and discussion.

·        Developing market linkages.

 

Points emerging from the discussions are summarized below:

 

1.                  Networking of information is required (Sri P. K. Sen).

2.                  Keep watch on climate changes & think of adaptations. Also ill effects & possibilities of Bt Brinjal (A. Wadood).

3.                  Entrepreneurship culture in Agriculture is very much needed (B.D.Bhagat).

4.                  Improving linkages of RAC & BAU with Government programmes is very essential (A. K. Sarkar).

5.                  Legal support & relevant information to ARAC members will be provided free (Naresh Prasad Singh).

6.                  Agricultural graduates should not suffer from any complex but should move forward with time (D. N. Bhagat)

7.                  Practical training of Agriculture students, orientation of teachers from time to time is required (Dr. S. N. Pandey).

8.                  Professionalism in Agriculture is required (Dr. P. N. Jha).

9.                  Social service by ARAC need to be encouraged (Dr. C. M. Sharma)

10.              Need for creation of ARAC fund, ARAC fellowship, enlargement of membership (P.N.Verma).

11.              Agri-graduates should have risk taking ability marketing & services corerage of Agri. Produce is important (Sri A. k. Thakur).

 

Chairman of the Session Sri J. P. Singh thanked the speakers for their views. Dr. K. K. Sahay informed the house that Dr. B. K. Singh has developed the ARAC Website (www.weatherindia.net/newarac.htm) and all informations will now be available on this website.

 

            In the afternoon, Annual General Body meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Sri P. N. Verma. The general consensus was

 

1.                  Rules & Regulations of ARAC to be circulated among members.

2.                  Members should send their views to Secretary or President ARAC for discussion in the next meeting.

3.                  It was decided that the present committee consisting of Sri A. K. Sarkar (President), Sri Ramesh Kumar (Secretary), Mrs. V. Kerketta (Treasurer), Dr. K. K. Sahay (Vice-President), Dr. Kishore Kumar (Vice-President) Sri Raj Bahadur Singh (Vice-President), Sri P. N. Verma, Sri Birendra Prasad, and Dr. (Mrs.) Shashi Kran Tirkey as executive members will continue for one year.

 

            In the evening students of RAC organized a cultural programme in the honour of Alumni of RAC. Dr. P. N. Jha, Sri Birendra Prasad, Sri A. K. Sarkar participated in the programme and encouraged the students. Dr. Shashi Kiran Tirkey & Dr. Punam Horo coordinated the event.

 

            At night, a Dinner was hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, BAU in the ‘Krishak Bhavan’.

            ARAC members visited several profit making & experiential learning units of RAC & RVC & College of Forestry and appreciated the developments, which has increased the credibility of the Institution. The units visited were:

 

1.                  Department of Home Science/Food Processing Lab.

2.                  Mushroom production unit.

3.                  Bio-control unit.

4.                  Apiary unit.

5.                  Medicinal & Aromatic plants garden.

6.                  Farming System.

7.                  Technology park and Hi-tech agriculture.

8.                  Piggery unit.

 

After the visit, the members assembled in the Auditorium for the Concluding Session held under the Chairmanship of Dr. P. N. Jha & Dr. S. N. Pandey.

 

            A copy of the rules & regulation of ARAC was handed over to about 50 members. Members promised to inform others for greater participation in next year. It was decided to get the accounts audited by CA & present in the next meeting. The date of 1st week of February was finalized for the next meet.

 

            Dr. P. N. Jha thanked for all the arrangements & whole hearted participation in the meeting.

 

            The meet was concluded by President, ARAC after ‘National Anthem’ sung by RAC students.
