Kharif Crop Sowing Report (As of 18 July 2025)

As of July 18, 2025, overall sowing trends across India show a mixed pattern. Maize recorded the highest increase in acreage, expanding by 9.48 lakh hectares compared to last year. Groundnut and sesame sowing also saw a rise, with acreage increasing by 0.85 lakh hectares and 0.46 lakh hectares respectively. In contrast, soybean acreage witnessed a sharp decline of 7.29 lakh hectares, likely due to weather-related challenges or market uncertainties. Sunflower sowing dropped slightly, by 0.01 lakh hectares. Cotton sowing fell by 3.50 lakh hectares, possibly due to shifts in crop preference or delays in monsoon. The decline in major oilseed crops may lead to supply constraints and price fluctuations in the coming months. As for coriander (dhania), sowing is expected to remain subdued, as farmers are more inclined towards mustard and chickpeas (chana) due to their favorable market prices.
