Delhi-NCR Under Thunderstorm and Rain Alert for Next 4 Days, Temperature Likely to Stay Below 40C
Residents of Delhi-NCR can expect relief from the intense summer heat as rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are forecast to continue over the next four days. Early morning showers and thunderstorm activity across several parts of the capital on Wednesday brought temperatures down significantly, creating pleasant weather conditions across the region. According to weather forecasts, Delhis maximum temperature is expected to remain below 34C, potentially making it the coolest day of June so far. The previous lowest maximum temperature this month was 34.6C, recorded on June 12. Temperatures are likely to stay below the 40C mark throughout the week, offering continued relief from heatwave conditions. Meteorologists attribute the change in weather to a combination of active weather systems. A cyclonic circulation persists over northern Rajasthan and adjoining areas, while an east-west trough extends from Haryana through Uttar Pradesh to Bihar. Although the trough is positioned north of Delhi, it remains close enough to influence local weather conditions. Additionally, a western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India by the evening of June 17. The interaction of these systems is likely to maintain pre-monsoon conditions across Delhi-NCR until at least June 20, increasing the chances of thunderstorms and scattered rainfall. Despite recent showers, Delhi remains below its normal rainfall mark for June. Data from the Safdarjung weather station shows that the city has received only 29.2 mm of rainfall so far this month, compared to the normal June average of 80.6 mm. While more rain is expected in the coming days, forecasters indicate that the showers will be scattered and short-lived, limiting the overall increase in monthly rainfall totals. Weather models suggest intermittent rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds will continue across Delhi-NCR over the next four days. Most weather activity is expected during the late-night and early-morning hours, while daytime conditions may remain partly cloudy to mostly clear. Nighttime temperatures are forecast to stay in the mid-20s Celsius range, contributing to more comfortable conditions compared to recent weeks. The normal onset date of the southwest monsoon over Delhi is June 27. However, current weather patterns indicate a possibility of a delayed arrival this year. Meteorologists are closely monitoring the progress of the monsoon and will provide updates as conditions evolve. For now, Delhi-NCR residents can look forward to cooler temperatures, periodic rainfall, and a welcome break from the scorching summer heat over the coming days.
