Southwest Monsoon Advances Further Across Several Parts of the Country; Likely to Expand Further Over the Next 48 Hours

The Southwest Monsoon continued its steady advance across the country, covering additional parts of the central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar on June 22, according to the India Meteorological Department. The current Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through Alibag, Pune, Nizamabad, Dantewada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Chatra, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur. Meteorologists indicate that conditions remain favorable for further advancement into the remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea, more areas of Maharashtra including Mumbai, the rest of Telangana and Odisha, and additional parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Bihar over the next 48 hours. Rainfall activity is expected to remain widespread across several regions of the country during the coming week. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Odisha, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Telangana, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu during different periods between June 23 and June 28. In Northwest India, scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is forecast over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Strong winds reaching 50-70 kmph may occur in isolated areas of Rajasthan and Bihar. Eastern and northeastern states are expected to witness active monsoon conditions. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura through June 28. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding in vulnerable areas. Konkan & Goa are likely to experience persistent heavy rainfall during the week, while Maharashtra, Gujarat, and adjoining regions will continue to receive scattered monsoon showers. Telangana is expected to remain under active monsoon conditions with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall through June 28. In South Peninsular India, widespread rainfall is forecast over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Lakshadweep, and Telangana. Heavy rainfall warnings have also been issued for parts of Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Karnataka.
