Centre Approves Procurement of 1.01 Lakh Tonnes of Chana at MSP in Karnataka
The central government has approved the procurement of 1.01 lakh tonnes of chana (gram) in Karnataka at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹5,875 per quintal. Karnataka has recorded a better chana output this year, and in this context, the approved procurement limit of 1.01 lakh tonnes appears insufficient to absorb the surplus production. If the government does not undertake procurement on a larger scale, farmers may be forced to sell their produce in mandis at prevailing market prices, which could be lower than the MSP.
