A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a strong depression. Under its influence, several states across the country are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds from August 17 to 23. State-wise Weather Forecast for the Coming Week Eastern India � The Most Affected Region The weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to have its greatest impact on eastern India. West Bengal (Gangetic plains) and Odisha: Heavy rainfall is expected until August 20. On August 17, some areas may receive extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds of up to 60 km/h. Jharkhand: Widespread rainfall is expected from August 17�19 and again on August 23. A very heavy rainfall alert has been issued for August 18. Bihar: Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning are likely from August 17�19. Central India Chhattisgarh: Heavy rainfall is expected from August 17�19, with extremely heavy rainfall possible in some areas on August 17. Thunderstorms and strong winds may continue through August 21. Madhya Pradesh: Eastern Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive rainfall from August 17�23, while western Madhya Pradesh may experience good rainfall from August 17�21. North and Northwest India � Including Delhi-NCR Plains: Delhi, Chandigarh, and Haryana may experience heavy rainfall on August 18 and again on August 21�22. Punjab is expected to receive rainfall from August 17�19, while Uttar Pradesh may see widespread rainfall from August 17�23. Hilly states: Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience continuous rainfall from August 17�23, with heavy to very heavy rainfall possible on some days. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh may also receive rainfall through August 22. Northeast India Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to receive widespread to heavy rainfall throughout the week, from August 17�23. Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for waterlogging, landslides, and other rain-related disruptions. Western and Southern India West Coast: Konkan and Goa are likely to receive good rainfall from August 17�23. Gujarat may experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds, particularly from August 17�19. Southern India: Heavy rainfall is possible in Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep from August 20�23. Some parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh may also receive light to moderate rainfall. Important Warning � Red Alert for Fishermen Strict advisory for fishermen: Until August 18, sea conditions over the northern Bay of Bengal, along the coasts of West Bengal, Odisha, and northern Andhra Pradesh are expected to remain rough to very rough. Wind speeds may reach up to 65 km/h. Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into these waters during this period.
